Hyundai AutoEver Secures International Functional Safety Certification

Hyundai AutoEver (CEO Ryu Seok-moon) announced that its ‘mobilgene x-Studio’ has received the ISO 26262 certification, the international standard for automotive functional safety.
Developed in-house by Hyundai AutoEver in 2023, mobilgene x-Studio is a program that automates the safety validation process for vehicle software. As vehicle software controls the entire system of a car, including the powertrain and infotainment, rigorous testing is essential to ensure safety.
Generally, three methods are used for vehicle software validation: △Model-in-the-Loop (MIL) △Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and △Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL). MIL is a technique for theoretically verifying the ‘algorithm,’ the command system that operates the software. It is mainly used in the early stages of development to check if the system operates correctly. SIL is a method to confirm that the actual software code runs without issues. HIL is a way to verify that the software functions correctly even when connected to the hardware (HW).
mobilgene x-Studio automates validation in various environments, including △MIL △SIL and △HIL. This has reduced work time by more than 50% compared to traditional manual methods. Furthermore, validation can be performed according to pre-set environments even without an operator, such as after work hours or during weekends.
With this ISO 26262 certification, Hyundai AutoEver has secured global-level reliability and business competitiveness for mobilgene x-Studio. ISO 26262 is an international standard for validating the safety of automotive electrical and electronic systems. It was established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 2011 to reduce risks caused by malfunctions in electrical and electronic systems. This certification was supervised by UL Solutions, the first safety standard development and certification body in the United States, founded in 1894.
Hyundai AutoEver is strengthening its functional safety response capabilities required for client projects. Currently, mobilgene x-Studio is being applied to various vehicle software validations. Since it has the potential for use in industries beyond automotive, such as △Aerospace △Defense and △Robotics, the company plans to expand collaboration with various customers in the future.
Hae-young Kwon, Vice President of the SDV Division at Hyundai AutoEver, stated, "Through this certification, we have secured international reliability for our automated validation tool. We will enhance customer satisfaction by providing competitive services." (End)
